Ford Salon at Butler University
An excerpt from "Faith, Family, Prosperity" The Newsletter of the Dr. James Ford Historic Home
On June 29, 2006, the formal dedication and opening of the Ford Salon was held in the lower level of Butler University's Eldson-Duckwall Recital Hall. The Ford Salon is a gathering place for receptions and other events on the Butler campus.
"The completion of this beautiful recital hall and the Ford Salon created valuable rehearsal and academic space that makes it possible for us to celebrate and fufill Butler University's mission," Eric Stark, associate professor of music and artistic director of the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir, said during the dedication. "It also further added to making Butler a gathering place for the arts and is a great gift to the broader Indianapolis arts community."
Butler President Dr. Bobby Fong said, "One of the university's goals has been to make Butler a regional center for arts and culture. It's a dream that we are fulfilling because of the visionary generosity of donors such as Richard Ford."
The plaque in the Ford Salon reads:
The Ford Salon was made possible by a gift from Richard Edwin Ford to honor his great-grandfather, Dr. James Ford, his grandfather, Edwin Holton Ford, founder of the Ford Meter Box Company, and other descendants of the Ford family who attended Butler University.
An Honored Guest
The Dr. James Ford Historic Home was privileged that Edwin Cole Bearss, noted Civil War historian, visited the home in October of 2006 before his presentation at the Honeywell Center. Edwin is well-known to Civil War enthusiasts as a battlefield tour guide for the Smithsonian Institute and for his participation in the PBS Civil War series by Ken Burns.
